Test Unit 2016 - Agile City - Glasgow

In the summer of 2016 I took part in Test Unit, an urban experiment that explored the concept of prototyping design ideas in public space. The week-long workshop, based on a site next to Glasgow's Forth and Clyde canal, featured four groups led by different practictioners who each responded to the site according to a different theme.

Our group, led by the fantastic artist Rebecca Davies, worked with the idea of how to connect local community groups to the site through making and performance. We constructed a spinning 'zoetrope' that referenced the cinema that used to sit on the site. The zoetrope is turned with four wooden handles that were distributed to different community groups in the area who were then invited to come and make their own designs to place inside. Wooden seating and a meeting table created a communal point to sit and watch the performance.
